چکیده

ABSTRACT We search for ultraluminous Quasi-Stellar Objects (QSOs) at high redshift using photometry from the SkyMapper Southern Survey Data Release 3 (DR3), in combination with 2MASS, VHS DR6, VIKING DR5, AllWISE, and CatWISE2020, as well parallaxes proper motions Gaia DR2 eDR3. report 142 newly discovered QSOs 3.8 < z 5.5, of which 126 have M145 ?27 AB mag are found a area 14 486 deg2. This sample, utilizing astrometry to offset wider photometric colour criteria, achieves unprecedented completeness an QSO redshift. The host galaxies of low luminosity quasars at high redshift

We present VLT/ISAAC near-infrared imaging of the host galaxies of 15 low luminosity quasars at 1 < z < 2. This work complements our studies to trace the cosmological evolution of the host galaxies of high luminosity quasars. The radioloud (RLQ) and radio-quiet (RQQ) quasars have similar distribution of redshift and luminosity, and together the high and low luminosity quasars cover a large rang...

Host galaxies of bright high redshift quasars: Luminosities and colours

We present the results of a near-infrared imaging study of high redshift (z ∼ 3) quasars using the ESO-VLT. Our targets were selected to have luminosities among the highest known (absolute magnitude MB <∼ −28). We searched for resolved structures underlying the bright point-source nuclei by comparing the QSO images with stars located in the same fields. Two QSOs (HE 2348−1444 at z = 2.904 and H...

High - redshift obscured quasars

Using mid-infrared and radio criteria, we select a sample of candidate z ∼ 2 obscured quasars. Optical spectroscopy confirms about half of these as type-2 quasars, and modelling the population suggests 50-80% of the quasars are obscured. We find some flat radio spectrum type-2 quasars, and tentative evidence for obscuration unrelated to the torus. Using a similar sample, we also find evidence f...

The Afterglows of Ultraluminous Quasars

Quasars represent a brief phase in the life-cycle of most massive galaxies, but the evolutionary connection between central black holes and their host galaxies remains unclear. While quasars are active and shining brighter than the Compton-limit luminosity, their radiation heats the surrounding medium to the Compton temperature, forming Compton spheres extending to the Strömgren radius of Fe26+...

A Physical Model for the Luminosity Function of High-Redshift Quasars

We provide a simple theoretical model for the quasar luminosity function at high redshifts that naturally reproduces the statistical properties of the luminous SDSS quasar sample at redshifts z ∼ 4.3 and z & 5.7. Our model is based on the assumptions that quasar emission is triggered by galaxy mergers, and that the black hole mass is proportional to a power-law in the circular velocity of the h...
